dentist second opinion: Our Experience with teledentistry for remote diagnosis.

All clinicians are aware of the importance of reaching the correct diagnosis.
Getting the right diagnosis is a key aspect of health care and proper treatment.
A missed or wrong diagnosis means incorrect treatment or wrong treatment.
Our principal strength is based on our multi-year experience in the use of many different kinds of radiological investigations in the study of dental cases and the planning of dental treatments.
Modern technologies and the power of the Internet allow us to diagnose and establish therapeutic solutions even in the absence of a clinical view of the patient.
X-rays or radiographs are essential to any diagnosis and dental care treatment plan. Also, intraoral and extra-oral photographs are used to complete the diagnosis of several pathologies in teledentistry. In most cases, mobile phone cameras may produce high-quality photographs, presenting itself as a viable tool for remote diagnosis.
We take great pride in using of teledentistry.
Clinical electronic charts and images were produced and sent by email to our oral medicine specialists with a median of 10 years’ experience in the field.
Our remote examiners formulated their diagnoses based solely on radiological investigations, photos, and questionnaire data.
These diagnoses were compared to those conducted in person, which was considered the gold standard.
With reference to approximately 20000 our teledentistry diagnosis cases when comparing diagnoses conducted in person and remotely we have a confirmation of correct diagnosis in over 93% of cases. This is a great success.
The levels of Correct Diagnosis between the in-surgery and remote diagnoses formulated exclusively with data and images were from 0.83 and 0.97.
The levels of Correct Diagnosis were higher when questionnaire data and X-Ray were included with more radiological investigations like CT, oral photographs, and periodontal charting form.
These results have made us understand that the precision of the remote diagnoses was comparable to the diagnoses conducted in person.
The results suggest that distant diagnosis can be an effective alternative in the diagnosis of oral disease and that the using many distant consultants with different specializations improves diagnostic accuracy.
Many persons may benefit from the use of teledentistry for telehealth in remote areas where oral medicine specialists are not available or any time when a person looking for a dental second opinion.
